On Monday all four cottages will celebrate together with a picnic.  The menu chosen includes: brats, potato salad, corn, watermelon and root beer floats! 

Farida from cottage 5 celebrated her US Citizenship with a party, cake and gifts. Congrats!

Gary and Ted from cottage 6 are heading to the Vikings game on September 1st.  They are looking forward to putting on their purple and gold jerseys and cheering for their favorite football team!

Chase from cottage 6 continues to collect food for the local foodshelf.  He enjoys being actively involved in bettering his community.  Donations are still being accepted.  Way to go Chase!

Cottage #1

Many of the clients in #1 attended the Carver County Fair.  Petting the Llama’s, ostrich and water buffalos was a hit!  All of the clients enjoyed entering items into the fair’s competition and everyone recieved a ribbon!  Some items entered included birdhouses, ceramic crafts, wooden animals and projects that included painting and gluing.

Marna enjoyed a weekend getaway in Minneapolis and attended some MN Twins games.

Eric, Rebecca, Brad and Shirley all went to camp for a week.

Steve traveled with Friendship Ventures to the Black Hills of South Dakota and had a great time!

Margot continues to volunteer her time once a month by playing the piano at Good Samaritan in Waconia.

Cottage #4

Stacy had her first exerience going to camp and seemed to have a good time

At the Carver County Fair, Anne held a bunny, Stacy danced, and Ann and Katie received some free tickets to ride the Ferris wheel.

The cottage visited the Fireman’s park for a picnic.

Everyone enjoyed the Victoria Volkfest and had a good time.

Each client enjoyed at least one “Lion’s Park Music Concert”  in Victoria.  Since the concert was next door, the clients enjoyed pulling up a chair next to the cottage to listen!

Carol took two trips this summer.  She attended the Higher Ground Music Festival in Winsted and then also had fun at Wisconsin Dells!

Many residents attended the Carver County fair at the beginning of August.  They enjoyed the rides, playing games and of course the good food.

Karen went on a vacation to Wisconsin Dells!

John and Mary Jo are planning a golfing day on August 29th.

Residents from Cottage 3 also enjoyed the Carver County Fair.  Bonnie really got into the excitement of the fair  and entered a number of her art projects.

Through a generous donation we have recieved some Vikings tickets and staff and residents are excited about their upcoming Viking game!

A Typical Workday

Each day will be unique, involving some or all of these routines.

Assist residents with personal care: Assistance with taking baths or showers, tooth brushing and flossing, toileting or grooming.

Assist residents with caring for their home: setting the table, doing dishes, taking out the trash, sweeping, doing laundry, dusting, etc.

Other daily routines: Exercise (going for a walk, using an exercycle or treadmill), improving language and speech, (using flash cards, sign language, pictures, etc.), room care (making their bed, cleaning their bedroom), correspondence (make a phone call, write a letter or use a computer), hobbies (puzzles, cards, board games, drawing, reading a newspaper or magazine, crafts, sports/basketball, riding a bike, listen to music, play Wii).

Drive and supervise residents while involved in the community: Restaurants, movies, bowling, plays, concerts, shopping, haircuts, banking, parks, playing pool, sporting events and theater.  Attend seasonal events such as picking apples, holiday parades, county fairs, outdoor sporting events and school sponsored community education classes.

Developing and improving social skills: Role model and teach how to solve conflicts, appropriately express concerns and emotions, manage time, and complete tasks without reminders or coaxing.

Charting and paperwork: throughout the shift make notes, complete forms and update lists.
